Frequently Asked Questions

What is Osteopathic Medicine?

American Ostropathic Association ( www.osteopathic.org ) states the following:

“Developed over 100 years ago by physician A.T. Still, osteopathic medicine is one of the fastest growing healthcare professions in the U.S. and brings a unique philosophy to traditional medicine. With a strong emphasis on the inter-relationship of the body's nerves, muscles, bones and organs, doctors of osteopathic medicine, or D.O.s, apply the philosophy of treating the whole person to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, disease and injury.”

What is OMT Osteopathic Manipulative treatment?

  • The use of hands to diagnose and treat disorders of the somatic system.

What is integrative medicine?

  • Integrative Medicine is the practice of using more than one approach in order to maximize the body’s natural healing ability.
  • It seeks to restore the focus of medicine on health and healing rather than disease and treatment.
  • It emphasizes a true partnership between patient and practitioner that addresses healing on all levels–especially lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, stress, quality of sleep, relationships, and work, as well as the appropriate use of dietary supplements, herbs, and medication.
  • It uses the body’s natural ability to heal itself with help from proven therapies and treatments.
